Empowering 250 Macau Merchants Through Digital Innovation

Themed “WeChat Pay Go Global: Endless Macau Fun with Exclusive Offers,” the initiative aims to assist 250 Macau businesses in successfully joining the “WeChat Pay Go Global” platform. By leveraging WeChat Pay’s extensive user base and built-in marketing tools, merchants will be empowered to independently launch promotional campaigns and enhance their brand visibility.

Through attractive exchange rates and merchant coupons, the program seeks to attract mainland Chinese tourists to claim offers and make purchases in Macau—stimulating the local economy, helping merchants expand digital payment channels, and embracing new opportunities in smart retail.

Government-Industry Collaboration to Promote Smart Commerce

In his opening remarks, Mr. Lou Kam Fai, Council Chairman of the Macau Advertising Association, emphasized the Macao SAR Government’s active push for moderate economic diversification under the “1+4” strategy, which fosters industrial innovation and digital transformation. As a bridge between industry and government, the Association responded to this call by advancing the adoption of WeChat Pay among local merchants.

Mr. Lou noted that this initiative helps merchants utilize the WeChat ecosystem for promotions and customer acquisition, while also attracting mainland tourists through the platform’s vast reach—bringing direct foot traffic and revenue to businesses.

Enabling Merchants to Reach Tourists with Smart Tools

Mr. Fong Ka Wing, General Manager of XGD Macau Limited, highlighted that mainland tourists are Macau’s primary customer segment and that WeChat Pay is a preferred payment method among them. He expressed confidence that by creating a dedicated “Endless Macau Fun” entry point on the WeChat Pay platform, and offering tailored marketing strategies, merchants can enhance their visibility and attract users to offline stores. This will also encourage deeper tourist engagement with local communities and distinctive neighborhood businesses—supporting sustained industry growth.

Some participating merchants expressed optimism that the initiative would increase footfall and boost sales. They also welcomed the opportunity to provide easier access to offers for tourists.

Integrated Promotion and Long-Term Support

The program will be promoted through collaboration with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and digital content creators in both Macau and mainland China, further expanding its reach and attracting tourist spending.

Open to all Macau-based businesses, the application period runs from July 4 to September 30, 2025. Participating merchants will receive support in setting up dedicated promotional pages, developing customized campaign plans, and joining the platform’s themed activity, “Endless Macau Fun,” which highlights curated consumption experiences for visiting tourists.
